Our first tree planting day on the Lammer began with the best weather. The sun was warm over the slope and the clear view opened up the view far into the valley. There was a relaxed atmosphere in the air as soon as we arrived. Although not all the tree planters knew each other, a cosy atmosphere quickly developed and the joy of the day was palpable.
Parallels between trees and people
During the tree planting, forester Andreas took the time to introduce us to the world of trees. He spoke vividly about the connections between trees and humans and explained how different species harmonise with each other and what it takes for a young tree to grow well. We learnt how trees communicate with each other, which species complement each other well and why a suitable location makes such a big difference. His thoughts on the parallels between trees and humans gave the whole thing an interesting depth and it was wonderful to listen to him philosophise. Many of us took away little 'aha' moments that later had a lasting effect on our everyday lives.
105 trees planted
Almost incidentally, we leisurely planted 105 young trees in the ground. Oaks, pines, service trees and other species found their place and were given protection. This led to many short conversations, but also quiet moments in which we could simply soak up the smell of the forest or the view.
Musical delights by the fire bowl
Once all the trees had been taken care of, we gathered around the fire bowl to eat together. Tim Martina played the guitar, we sang together and finally we even found a harp - and so there was a private concert with fairy sounds and fire crackling from harpist Mirijam. A wonderful end to a wonderful day.
