About the "Baumkreis um die Welt" association
Status: 3 June 2024
The "Baumkreis um die Welt" is a very young association: It was founded in May 2023 and has been officially registered as a non-profit organisation in the German register of associations since March 20241. We inform the public via our website https://baumkreisumdiewelt.org/ - we are gradually filling it with content, just as our activities are constantly growing.
The initiators and founding members of the "Baumkreis um die Welt" are meeting each other at the Lead the Change 2022/23 annual training programme.2 met. We come from different corners of Austria and Germany. We are united by our love of trees as well as our pain at the deforestation of forests, the sealing of soils and the widespread careless treatment of our more-than-human fellow creatures by many people.
What could we do to contribute to the re-greening of the world? How could we strengthen the connection between humans and nature, of which we are a part? How can we inform people about the importance of trees and plants in general for the climate? How and where can we plant new trees and protect old trees? And how can we reach other people and motivate them to do the same?
We explored these questions in many discussions and finally decided to give our ideas stable structures by founding an association so that we could work together well beyond the course, across cities and national borders. At the final module of our course, we finally met to found the "Baumkreis um die Welt" association and planted our first tree in Bad Tölz together with all the course participants.
We were active even before the organisation was officially registered: we planted trees in Eisenstadt, Grünbach and Vienna. In conversations, we told other people about our concerns and met with a lot of approval. We received donations as well as active help with planting. One person we spoke to invited us to plant trees in his vineyards that had disappeared since his youth... We are constantly working on further realising our dream of a tree circle around the world. We are building our work on the following pillars:
Networking: There are already many large and small initiatives for re-greening the world. We want to network with them and work together, each in their own way, towards our common goal. As part of the "Masalu" social project, we have been able to sponsor over 350 trees in Tanzania; a collaboration with the "City of Ubuntu" peace initiative is on the horizon, and a cooperation with the Austrian Institute for Sustainability ÖIN is already underway. We would like to make many of these initiatives visible and accessible via our website and thus form a kind of circle of tree planting initiatives around the world.
Localisation: We want to create concrete places. Places where people can meet, learn and experience the connection between people and trees. One member of our organisation has already promised to invest his own money in the purchase of such a place. We are still looking for him...
Plants: We will of course continue to plant trees and motivate other people to do the same. This can be individual trees as well as larger plantations. We do this both ourselves and by supporting others with donations. We want to do this with ease and joy - even on a small balcony, tree children can grow up until a good place is found for them to live. Planting campaigns with young people and primary school children have already been and are being realised. We use our website to visualise the places where we and our friends around the world plant trees: as a tree circle around the world.
Annual training "Lead the Change" of the Pioneers of Change. This course is aimed at people who aspire to work with their The programme will contribute to social change towards a vibrant, peaceful, nature-friendly and grandchildren-friendly world, and it will strengthen and qualify them on this path.

Dear tree lovers!
All my life I have wanted to do something for the trees. I promised them I would. On the way to school. And now that I'm an adult, I've found myself frustrated. Disappointed that I'm not doing anything.
That's when I find myself in the annual Pioneers of Change training programme. And already in the second module, I feel so much clarity that I decide to finally show myself as a male being in a female body. So much that I had been holding back, so much "doing-as-if" falls away from me that I suddenly have a lot of energy at my disposal. I feel liberated.
I start my life as "Tim" with renewed vigour. I learn from a natural scientist that there are around 375 trees per person on earth and that around two trees per person disappear every year. So if things are to improve, each person would have to plant at least three to four trees per year. Three to four trees per person per year? That can't be that difficult! If it requires a "source", a visionary, a gateway, as it were, through which the trees can come into the world: That's what I'm here for.
Two colleagues from the annual training programme stand by my side. "I'm your project manager," says the woman, who has mastered structure and organisation with her little finger. "And we'll start with one tree, then five, and if it goes well, ten more...", adds the man, who is experienced in organisation and personal development, and smiles heart-warmingly. I can hardly believe my luck. Heaven sends you!
I get to be the dreamer who holds the vision of millions of trees. "I want to bless the trees," I explain, "everyone can bless them. May they bless the world."
Just a few weeks later, we founded the "Baumkreis um die Welt" association. As if by magic, we found a secretary and treasurer, auditors, members and advisors as well as an observer. We plant the first tree on the very same day. It is sung about, danced around and blessed. It also symbolises love, healing and solidarity.
Are you also planting a tree and would you like to bless it?
Welcome to the "TREE CIRCLE AROUND THE WORLD"!

My vision
For me, the Baumkreis um die Welt is an association that connects people and initiatives who are involved with trees and forests, either professionally or privately.
We are not experts, but we are driven by a love of the forest and the joy of working. That's why I see our mission primarily as getting people who are not directly involved with the topic (e.g. senior citizens, families, children, socially disadvantaged people or refugees) interested in the topic and sensitising them to it. To invite people to experience the beneficial world of the forest, to understand its exemplary function as a living community and to experience the diversity, beauty and uniqueness of trees.
A concrete first step:
With the association, I would like to buy a forest that is managed in the 'traditional' way and give it a new future for natural, robust development and for a recovery in diversity: diversity in species, in functions, in structures and in uses. The aim is to create a forest that is beneficial for all living creatures, for humans and animals, and especially for a changing society that lives by new values of togetherness and prosperity, a forest that offers us recreation, experiences, community and space for reflection. Specifically, I see this forest as a place for encounters and communal activities, e.g. for a forest garden, forest bathing, vision quests, threshold walks and much more.

Preamble
I love the forest!
After many conversations about the statutes of our association "Baumkreis um die Welt", I enter the forest in the hope of finding clear thoughts.
A snake crosses my path. Just a few metres further on, I find a crystal and, to my great delight, I hear the small stream rushing, which had been dry for a long time! Yes, it is right to found the association.
My vision appears before my inner eye:
A forest that heals people. People who are connected from heart to heart. Connected to the sky, the earth and the trees. A little brook rushes. Accompanied by music. WE have planted these trees. Blessed trees.
THANK YOU to all those who make the tree circle around the world a reality. A blessing for the world.
