Mid-September 2025: Inspection and preparation day for the two big tree planting days at the Lammer as part of the Tree Circle around the World.
Tending the forest
Barbara has only recently become a forest guardian - and a member of Baumkreis um die Welt. She has been given a forest on the Lammer in Styria, which she now wants to cultivate and look after in a sustainable way. She does not see herself primarily as a „forester“ or „forest owner“ - but above all as a „forest guardian“. She has been exploring exactly what this means and what it involves for several months now. We at Baumkreis um die Welt have been able to accompany her - and learn a lot ourselves.
Get to know the forest
There's a lot you need to know to make an existing forest „fit for the future“. Fortunately, forester Andreas and forester Petra help us with this and tell us what to look out for during the inspection.
What to do after storm damage? Which trees are suitable for which terrain? Which trees are fit for the future and can cope with the climate now - and probably in the next 100 - 200 years? In which groups and mixtures should the trees be planted? Who needs how much distance / proximity? Petra and Andreas hiked through the forest with Barbara and Tim and shared their expertise and experience. Thank you very much for that!
At the end, there was guitar music at sunset and singing together while the fresh chanterelles sizzled over the fire...
